Flash back to swing

Squirrel Nut Zippers

A North Carolina band that formed in '93, the sound of Squirrel Nut Zippers is hard to define, as is the case with most neo-swing bands of that decade. Their southern flare makes it not fully within the category of swing.

The Zippers' accolades include playing at the '96 Summer Olympics; on The Tonight Show; Late Night With David Letterman; Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and others. They also toured with Neil Young in '97. Their album 'Hot' was certified platinum in '97, meaning at least one million copies had been sold.

In 2000, the band broke up due to discrepancies regarding management agreements and royalties. But thankfully, they reformed in 2007, having learned much from their time apart. Goes to show you that good things can come from something bad.
